Someone near you is searching Google Maps right now.
Are they finding you, or the competitor three doors down? The Maps Pack is the block of three listings Google shows before any organic result. We get your Google Business Profile, Bing Places and Apple Business Connect listing into it.

What is local SEO, and what does it include?
Local SEO is the work of optimising your business listings, on-site content and citations across Google, Bing and Apple so you appear in map results and “near me” searches for your city or service area. Google ranks local results on three signals: relevance, distance and prominence. Get those right and you sit above the organic results, for free, every time someone nearby searches.
- Where: Kampala, and across Uganda and East Africa
- Included in: our monthly SEO retainer, from $400/month
- Time to move: typically 60–90 days in the Maps Pack
- Platforms: Google, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Facebook, Yelp
- Free first: every engagement starts with a free profile review
- You work with: Francis Baguma directly, not a junior
National SEO competes for a country. Local SEO competes for a radius.
Sometimes a few kilometres inside Kampala. Sometimes a whole region across East Africa. Google decides who wins it on three signals.
Relevance
Does your profile actually match what was searched? Category, services, description and photos all tell Google what you are. A generic category set once at launch is the most common reason a real business never appears.
Distance
How close are you to the person searching? You cannot move your building, but you can define service areas correctly, which decides how far your listing reaches beyond your own street.
Prominence
How well known and well reviewed are you, online and off? This is the signal you have the most control over, and the one almost nobody in this market is deliberately working on.
Rankings can slip within about 18 days of no new reviews (Sterling Sky). Velocity matters more than total count.Bing and Apple weigh similar signals through their own profiles. Get all three right and you show up above the organic results every time someone nearby searches, whether they are using Google, Siri or Copilot.
Your business is real. On Google Maps, it is invisible.
If any of this sounds familiar you have a local SEO problem, and it is one of the fastest on this page to fix.
Everything your business needs to rank locally
Six disciplines covering Google, Bing and Apple, plus the on-site signals that tie them together.
Google Business Profile
We claim, verify and fully build out your profile: categories, service areas, description, photos and posts. Google gets everything it needs to place you in local results.
GBP signals decide roughly a third of the Maps Pack (Whitespark, 2026). More than reviews. More than links.Bing Places & Apple Business Connect
Google brings the most volume in Uganda, but it is not the only map your customers open. We set up and verify Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Facebook and Yelp.
Apple Business Connect usage nearly doubled in a year, 14% to 27% (BrightLocal, 2026). Bing now feeds Copilot and Alexa.Local keyword research
We find the exact “near me” and location-based phrases your customers in Kampala, Nairobi or Dar es Salaam are typing, then target your site and profile around them.
“Near me” searches have grown 900% in two years (Google), and are still accelerating.Citations & NAP consistency
We build and correct your listings across local directories so your Name, Address and Phone number match everywhere Google looks. That consistency is how Google decides your location is real.
Inconsistent NAP data is still a top-15 Maps Pack ranking factor (Whitespark, 2026).Location pages & on-page signals
A profile alone is not enough. We build location-specific pages and on-page signals, embedded maps, local schema and area-served content, so your website backs up what your listing claims.
LocalBusiness schema is what lets an assistant state your hours, address and service area with confidence.Review generation & management
We set up a simple, policy-safe system for asking happy customers for reviews, and show you how to respond to every one. Count, recency and sentiment are all Maps Pack ranking factors.
Whitespark found a measurable ranking jump right at 10 reviews. Below that, Google barely notices you.“Near me” is being answered by assistants now, not just Google
When someone asks Siri for a solar installer in Kampala, or Copilot who fits electric fencing nearby, the answer is assembled from business profiles, not from a page of blue links. A listing that exists only on Google is invisible to all of them.
This is the part of local search almost nobody in this market is set up for yet, and it is included in every retainer we run.
- We put you on every map the assistants read
Apple Business Connect feeds Siri and Apple Maps. Bing Places feeds Microsoft Copilot and Alexa. Both are verified and completed, not just created.
- We add the schema that states the facts plainly
LocalBusiness, Organization and FAQ schema so an assistant can state your address, hours, service area and prices without having to guess at them.
- We keep the profile fresh enough to be trusted
Reviews, photos and posts on a steady cadence. Recency is a ranking signal in the Maps Pack, and a staleness signal to the models reading it.
Up to 68% of local searches now trigger an AI Overview (Whitespark, 2025). Those answers are still assembled from the Maps Pack and the business profiles beneath it, so an unoptimised profile is invisible in both at once.

Local SEO Was Part of What Got Easy Power Found.
Before working with us their Google presence outside their own website was thin: an unoptimised business listing, inconsistent information scattered across the web, and no deliberate local targeting anywhere in the content.
As part of the full engagement we optimised their Google Business Profile, cleaned up their local citations, and built location-specific targeting into the site alongside the technical and content work. Today they sit first in the Maps Pack for their category.

- You have a Google Business Profile but have not touched it since the day it was created
- Competitors with a worse product consistently outrank you on Google Maps
- You serve specific towns across Uganda or East Africa and want to be found in each one
- You want one team handling Google, Bing and Apple instead of juggling three logins

- You want to be first in the Maps Pack in a week. Local rankings build over 60 to 90 days
- You are not willing to ask happy customers for a Google review, ever
- You already dominate the Maps Pack for every keyword that matters to your business

Answered by Francis Baguma, Senior SEO Strategist · Elite Webmasters, Kampala·Last reviewed What is local SEO?
Local SEO means optimising your business listings, on-site content, and citations across Google, Bing, and Apple. The goal is to show up in map results and “near me” searches for your city or service area. Google ranks local results using three signals: relevance, distance, and prominence. Get those right and you appear above the organic results, for free, every time someone nearby searches.
Do you optimise Bing Places and Apple Maps too, or only Google?
Yes, plus Facebook and Yelp. Google still brings the most search volume in Uganda. But Bing Places now feeds Bing search, Microsoft Copilot, and Alexa. Apple Business Connect feeds Siri and Apple Maps. Its usage nearly doubled in a year: 14% to 27% (BrightLocal, 2026). A listing that exists only on Google is invisible on all of those.
How long does local SEO take to work in Uganda?
Most businesses see movement in the Google Maps Pack within 60 to 90 days, once the Google Business Profile is fully optimised and citations are consistent. Competitive categories in Kampala can take longer. Local rankings tend to be more stable once earned than standard organic rankings.
Do I need a physical office to rank on Google Maps?
Yes, for a standard Google Business Profile. You need a physical address customers or deliveries can reach. Or you set your profile up as a service-area business if you don’t see walk-in customers. We’ll tell you which setup fits your business before we start.
Can you manage local SEO for more than one location?
Yes. Each location gets its own Google Business Profile, its own local keyword targeting, and its own citation set. We’ll map this out with you as part of the free review.
Does local SEO still matter now that Google shows AI Overviews?
More than ever. Up to 68% of local searches now trigger an AI Overview (Whitespark, 2025). Those AI answers are still built from the Google Maps Pack and Business Profiles beneath them. If your profile isn’t optimised, you’re invisible in the AI answer and the map results at the same time.
How much does local SEO cost in Uganda?
Local SEO is included as part of our monthly SEO retainer, which starts from $400 (roughly 1.5M UGX) per month. Every engagement starts with a free Google Business Profile review, so you know exactly what needs fixing before you pay for anything.
Every day you are off the map, someone local picks your competitor.
