Prominence combines your reviews, your citations (mentions of your business across the web), and the authority of your website. The more evidence Google sees that you are a real, established, trusted business, the higher you rank.
According to Advice Local’s 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors report, Google Business Profile signals account for 32% of local ranking influence, making it the most important controllable factor. Reviews alone account for 16 to 20% of ranking weight, and that share is rising every year.

How to Set Up Your Google Business Profile in Uganda (Step by Step)
Step 1: Create or Claim Your Profile
Go to business.google.com/create and sign in with your Google account.
Search for your business name first. If Google has already created a basic listing (this happens often; someone may have added your business to Maps), you’ll see a “Claim this business” option. Click it.
If your business doesn’t exist yet, click “Add your business to Google” and start from scratch.
Step 2: Enter Your Business Name and Address
Step 3: Choose the Right Business Category
This is the most important step and the one most businesses get wrong.
Your primary category tells Google what your business does. For instance, “SEO Agency” and “Digital Marketing Agency” are different categories. “Solar Panel Supplier” and “Solar Energy Company” are different. Choose the one that most precisely describes your core service.
Additionally, you can add secondary categories for additional services. However, your primary category carries the most weight.
Take your time here. A wrong category means you won’t rank for the searches that matter.

Upload at least 5 photos before you verify: your shopfront or office exterior, your interior, your team, and your products or services in action.
Businesses with photos receive significantly more direction requests and clicks than those without. Moreover, this is one of the easiest wins available.

Important: Your business will not appear on Google Maps until verification is complete. Therefore, do not skip this step.

Reviews are the second most overlooked factor in local SEO after the Google Business Profile itself.
According to Advice Local’s 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors, reviews account for 16 to 20% of your local ranking weight. That share grows every year as Google places more trust in social proof.
